What is toner-reactive foil?
The magic that turns your laser-printed black ink into glossy, mirror-finish metallic. Heat meets pressure, toner meets foil, and suddenly your flat design is shining. No special printer, no fancy tech. Just the right foil and the right laminator.
Does this work with my printer?
Laser printers only. If your printer uses toner cartridges (powder, not liquid ink), you’re in. HP LaserJet, Brother laser, Canon imageCLASS, Samsung Xpress, Oki, they all play nicely.
Check your cartridges: powder = yes, liquid = no. Inkjet owners, scroll down to the troubleshooting section.
What laminator do I need?
You need a laminator that hits 100 to 120°C. That’s the whole technical bit. Popular crafter picks include the Crafter’s Companion Foil Press, Gemini Foilpress, GBC Fusion, and Sizzix Big Shot Foil Edition.
Or just wait for The Betty. Our own UBC laminator, tested, tried, and signed off by Betty herself. Built for toner foiling, dialled to the exact temperature range our foils love, and priced at £99. No guesswork, no research, no compromise.

Do I really need a carrier folder?
Yes. Yes yes yes.
Running toner foil and paper through a laminator without a carrier folder is the fastest way to jam the rollers and coat your machine in adhesive. Carrier folders are cheap, reusable for 100+ uses, and completely non-negotiable. Grab a pack of three or pack of five from Betty’s Kits.
What cardstock works best?
Smooth. Uncoated. 200 to 300 gsm. Toner-compatible. Avoid anything glossy, laminated, or heavily textured.
Good picks: GF Smith Colorplan, Fedrigoni Sirio, Favini, Keaykolour, or any "laser-safe" cardstock from a craft supplier. Our own UBC cardstock is in the works.
Why is my foil patchy?
Nine times out of ten, it’s heat. Your laminator isn’t hot enough, or you’re running it through too fast.
Other culprits: your toner print is too light (try a darker setting or double-pass it), or your paper is repelling toner (glossy or coated stock can do this).

The foil lifts when I add tape or glue
Foil bonds to toner. The area around your design is just loose foil sitting on bare paper, so tape pulls it up.
Fix: peel the foil back cleanly first. Burnish any ragged edges with a bone folder. Then tape, glue, or stick as you like.
Can I use these on an inkjet print?
Sorry, this is a toner-only club.
Inkjet ink is liquid-based and doesn’t contain the thermoplastic polymer that toner foil needs to bond. If you’re inkjet-printing, you’ll need a different method: glue sheets, double-sided sticker paper, or a hot-foil applicator.
Will these work with my Cricut, Silhouette, or ScanNCut?
Yes, with a sequence. Our foils apply to toner prints, so the order is: print in black toner, foil, then cut. Your die-cutter is for after the foil is on.
If you want to apply foil without a toner print (direct to paper), you need a hot-foil applicator, not our toner foils.
Standard, Premium, Exclusive. What’s the difference?
Three tiers, three vibes.
Standard is the essentials. Golds, silvers, cool-tone classics. Your bread and butter foils.
Premium is the next level. Holographics, rainbow shifts, specialist finishes.
Exclusive is the limited edition stuff. Gradients, one-of-one drops, small-run colours that sell out fast.
What formats do you sell?
Every UBC foil comes in seven formats: single A4 sheet, 10-pack, 25-pack, 50-pack, 5m roll, 10m roll, 25m roll.
The more you buy, the cheaper each sheet gets. Single sheets start at £1.29. At 50-pack volume, that drops to £0.20 per sheet. Up to 85% off. Do the maths, then do the bundle.
